Finding Purpose, Building Confidence: The Heart of Ikigai Community Care

At Ikigai Community Care, our mission is simple but powerful: to walk alongside people living with a disability and help them discover what gives their life purpose, connection, and meaning.

Since opening our doors in 2023, we’ve created more than just a service — we’ve created a community. Based in Heathcote, our unique spaces offer NDIS participants the chance to build independence, explore creativity, form friendships, and grow skills for life and work.

🏡 The Ikigai Community Hub

The Ikigai Community Hub is the heart of our daily programs. It’s where participants come to learn, connect, and thrive in a calm and nurturing environment. Our programs are designed around the needs and interests of each person, offering real opportunities for growth — at their pace, in their own way.

Here’s just a glimpse of what happens at the Hub:

  • Life skills & social development
  • Movement to music and daily exercise
  • Art, woodwork & hands-on creative projects
  • Cooking programs in our fully equipped kitchen
  • Flower arranging and deliveries to local businesses
  • A secure shredding program with recycled eco-products
  • Calm sensory spaces and a peaceful community garden
  • Allied Health support in a familiar setting
  • Fun and inclusive outings — like bush BBQs and visits to the Pink Cliffs

It’s a space where people feel seen, supported, and encouraged — not just to participate, but to lead, contribute, and express who they are.

🏪 The Ikigai Storehouse

Right next door, The Ikigai Storehouse brings supported employment to life. This is where creativity meets practical learning — and every participant plays a role in making something meaningful.

In our public-facing gift shop, we stock:

  • Beautiful handmade goods created by participants
  • Eco-friendly fire starters and seeded paper
  • Premium local brands including Rich Glen, Doterra, Myles Gray, and Butterfly Stitches

Behind the scenes, participants are involved in everything from product making and packaging to retail training, customer service, and order fulfilment — all with the gentle support of our staff. The Storehouse isn’t just a place to work — it’s a space to build confidence, purpose, and pride in real-world achievements.

🧡 Real Stories, Real Change

Our families often tell us that Ikigai has changed their lives — helping their loved ones go from isolation to inclusion, from anxiety to self-expression. One family shared:

“After three years of isolation post-COVID, our son was struggling with daily life. Leanne met him with patience and understanding, gently helping him build confidence to step back into the world. Today, he’s the most socially active and connected he’s ever been.”

These are the moments that matter. This is why we do what we do.

🌱 What Ikigai Means to Us

In Japanese, ikigai means “a reason for being.” At Ikigai Community Care, we believe that every person deserves to feel that sense of purpose — no matter their background, abilities, or barriers. We don’t just provide support — we build relationships, empower choice, and create space for individuals to design the life they want.

📍 Come Visit Us
